REGINA - School divisions in Saskatchewan now have to make their change room policies publicly available and share them with the provincial government.
In January, the Saskatchewan government said all schools were to have policies by June 30 that upheld the privacy, dignity and comfort of all students.
A ministry spokesperson says divisions have worked to meet that deadline, adding that officials will work with them to make sure policies are in place for the fall.
The directive came after Premier Scott Moe, during the fall election campaign, said it would be his "first order of business" to ban "biological boys" from changing with "biological girls."
He later backtracked his comments, which were in response to a complaint that two transgender students used a girls' changing room at a school in southeast Saskatchewan.
Most divisions, including Regina and Saskatoon public, already had policies in place when the province issued the directive, which some groups welcomed, while others said it opened the door for hate towards LGBTQ+ students.
