Vancouver marked Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada with a pair of events, including what it calls the city's largest street festival dedicated to the occasion in the Downtown Eastside. The city closed off parts of the neighbourhood to vehicle traffic as vendors filled the street with artwork booths and other kiosks, while other events such as the blessing of a Tsleil-Waututh Nation house post at Queen Elizabeth Theatre took place earlier in the day. Michelle Bryant-Gravelle, senior director of Indigenous relations with the City of Vancouver, said the goal was to invite everyone to experience the richness of Indigenous culture beyond the headlines about the challenges faced by the community.
