MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A budget deal brokered by Wisconsin Democratic Gov. Tony Evers and Republicans who control the state Legislature cleared a key hurdle on Tuesday, just hours after it was made public.

The deal in the battleground state on a new cuts income taxes, calls for closing a prison and increases funding for the Universities of Wisconsin despite a threatened cut.
