Phoney wildfire images cause confusion on social media. Here are steps to spot them

This AI-generated image that was posted on Facebook was reshared by the BC Wildfire Service as a warning that misleading images and misinformation about wildfires was spreading online. Social media users can look for details in images that give them away as AI, such as the numbers "97" and "97C" written on the highway overpass in this image. This week, the BC Wildfire Service posted on Facebook two aerial view images of wildfires raging across densely forested terrain with aircraft attempting to douse the flames. The images were dramatic, compelling and, the service warned, completely fake.
